My name is Tori Olds, PhD and I am a psychologist living in Austin TX. What I'd really like you to know is that I LOVE learning about the mind. I also love learning how to help others have a more compassionate understanding of themselves. Whatever the format--whether crafting educational videos for RUclips, or writing and recording music--I want to do my part in this conversation around being human. And I'd love you to join my community of curious-minded folks as we explore being human together!

"Minding the Heart" is a 6-month course which meets weekly over zoom and focuses on the core skills needed to work experientially in therapy. This course is a deep-dive into theory and technique, and integrates from AEDP, IFS, and Coherence Therapy. The foundational goal is to learn to work in a way that facilitates deep transformation through memory reconsolidation. As Ecker is my main mentor, his theories and techniques serve as the backdrop for what we will be learning in the group. (BTW, if you are wanting a deeper dive into coherence therapy specifically, please email me about that. I have another offering focused solely on coherence therapy).

Let's talk about deliberate practice and how we can become a better therapist. Join us on PATREON: patreon.com/toriolds We haven't improved the results we get (in the field of psychotherapy) over the last 50 years. I believe that is because we have poured our research money into trying to improve our therapies (the types of interventions we use), rather than learning how to improve our therapis...

Why is it Hard to Love Yourself?

Thankyou ❤️
Hi Tori what do you think about Shadow Work (Junghian stuff) and memory reconsolidation? Is it possible Shadow Work uses this process
This was fascinating - thank you.
Beautiful ❤
Did she fix this ? It still says need permission -.-
Nothing useful to be had here
Thanks ❤
Tantrums are opportunities to ask the child "how do you think this situation works out for you", followed then you can ask why, then you make almost a game comparing your Ys with theirs. Now stuff like, do not touch the stove, really is something you want to pro actively prepare and discuss before it happen as the child has to understand non negotiable boundaries.
I look forward to hearing your recap of the history of the development of IFS and AEDP. They evolved from a broad base of work by our psychoanalytic "ancestors" and I would love to see them get credit.
Beautiful.
Awesome. Thanks.
I’m about to be 61 and have been in therapy for 4 decades with some very talented therapists and have tried every medication and healing modality under the sun to no avail. My suffering is so unbearable at times that living is a real challenge. I’m just beginning to use this model with my 2 therapists. I’ve also been reading a book “Healing the Fragmented Selves of trauma Survivors” by Janina Fisher who uses IFS and studied with Richard Schwartz (creator of IFS) and Bessel van der Kolk . I’m hoping with every cell in my body that this works for me.
I would like to fill in the form, but I dont have permission. Please advise. Thank you. Luiza
I don't have anything original to say other than thank you. Just starting on this IFS journey.
what would you say is the difference of this healthy version of multipllicity with ifs parts and what you called pathological multiple personalities?
Tori I have difficulty signing up. It tells me I need a permission :(
Yes, sorry!! I fixed it! ;)
Me too :-)

Yay!!
I’m crying. I think I have found the answer to my life struggles at the age of 51. I was bullied at School for being gay. I have a narcissistic Mother and my Father was an alcoholic. I trained as an Actor but then couldn’t cope with the feelings of rejection. Everyone was telling me how talented I was and asking me why I had given up on my dreams but I was so overwhelmed by just the thought of getting back into ‘The Business’ auditions, castings etc. I found comfort in alcohol from a young age but eventually it ravaged my whole being. I wanted to die. At the age of 40 I had a moment of clarity, picked the telephone for the first time in years and broke down on the phone to a rehab treatment centre. I got sober and have now been sober for almost 12 years. I’m sober yes, but still desperately unhappy. I procrastinate all the time, I’m generally unhappy and continually dream of being a working actor but I’m held back by so much fear. It’s got to the point where I feel like a total failure, worthless and depressed. I avoid social situations, I’m filled with resentment and jealousy of others and am starting to lose all hope after I went through therapy to help with childhood traumas. After seeing this video I can see how much this technique would work for me and it feels almost like the possible answer to my problems. Thank you for posting this, I’ll be looking for a local IFS trained therapist and will hopefully begin to heal myself. I’ll keep you updated. ☺️
Grateful for this IFS series! 🙏
Where has the good Doctor gone?
She's pretty
Hey do you work with ppl online? I'd love to do some sessions of either therapy or coaching with you. I'm enjoying your videos a lot and finding you easy to trust.
I don't need to find myself. I'm always in front of the fridge.
Marked by optimism, may your smile never fade.
Resonate so much. Finally a therapy approach that make sense 🙏
Where are you dr olds???? I've binge watched your content and need more 😅❤ thank you
lovvvvvvvvv
Has anyone tried it and helped?
Can I do this therapy through the book. Or should I read the book and get an ifs Therapist?
You have such a nice voice to listen to. Thank you 🙏
This was amazing!!!
Question 🙋🏻♂️ You said that there is a five hour window for “updates and tweaks” to the original schema….how many times can the memory be opened and reconsolidated? What if the memory for the client is to horrific? Wouldn’t that be more damaging in the long run? Absolutely LOVE your work and videos, NGL your videos have encouraged me to look into becoming a therapist :)
When I tried to uncoverer my "True Self", I only got psychosis and "molesting demons" from... People should really be careful with that spiritual stuff. You might be lucky and doesn't have to deal with what I have to deal with for example. I can only wish.
My deepest compassion for you and your situation. I hope you find a deeper, safer, and stiller foundation upon which you can rest.
@@MovinduKumarasinghe These days I just hope that one day I can feel normal again without drowning in meds.
What a beautiful and concise definition 🎉
Thank you. I wish you were my therapist! If you could add subtitles to your videos it would be appreciated and make them more accessible.
It’s wild tho. It is spiritual because the “world” does not respect the 8 c’s
Cool
I really wish I had a therapist
I healed so much trauma thanks to you.
This is so beautiful!
Kinds of educators: 1. "I make sure what I'm saying sounds really complex, so you're impressed by my intelligence." 2. This (solid info without pretense).
I wish psychology videos were regularly produced this well. This is visually and auditorily one of the best I've ever seen.
This 💯
Thank you very much for this❤
After watching this I have realised that during my own self analysis over the last year a protector part has been stepping in the majority of the time.. I will try and figure out how to unblend from it.. Not sure how but thank you for giving me the knowledge to identify that 🙏 it's made me feel hopeful ❤
Years ago in therapy I got reprimanded for talking about parts; that therapy place did a whole lot of damage.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom, knowledge and compassion worldwide. I needed someone who I can understand and speaks my words. And that's you. May you be rewarded for all the good that you do by being yourself.
